Teaching :: Current Past

Some time before completing my “licenciatura”, I started teaching and have since then taught in several institutions in Europe and the United States, at the undergraduate and graduate levels. My students are drawn from several areas, mostly management and economics.

At the Universidade Nova de Lisboa, I have taught graduate courses in advanced macroeconomics and political economy as part of the Ph.D. degree. I teach political economy as applied to macroeconomics as part of the Public Economics course, jointly with Susana Peralta. At the undergraduate level, I have taught introductory and intermediate macroeconomics for management and economics students.  Joint with Nuno Garoupa, I have taught a course on Institutions and Economic Performance, part of a master in public policy and administration.

I am currently preparing a short course on the political economy of democratization, directed at students of the Masters in Comparative Politics at ICS - Instituto de Ciências Sociais.

As a visiting assistant professor at University of California Los Angeles, between 1999 and 2001, I have taught courses in intermediate macroeconomics, macroeconomics and politics, and economic growth.

During my study towards the Ph.D. in Economics at Harvard University I taught sessions in intermediate economics for Chris Foote, as Head Teaching Fellow

At the Universidade Católica Portuguesa, between 1989 and 1992, I was teaching assistant for the courses in econometrics, economic development, financial economics, history of economic thought, macroeconomics and public economics.
